PATTERN INFORMATION
Knitting loom: 48-peg large gauge loom, and 24-peg large gauge loom. Sample used KB Looms Chunky loom (orange and mint)
Yarn: Approx 90 yards of super bulky merino wool yarn. Malabrigo Rasta in Natural and Sunset were used in samples.
Optional: Faux fur pom pom
Notions: knitting tool, tapestry needle.
ABBREVIATIONS
k=knit stitch
p=purl stitch
yo=yarn over
k2tog=knit two stitches together (a decrease), right slanting
ssk=slip, slip, knit together (a decrease), left slanting
rnd(s)=round(s)
INSTRUCTIONS
Cast on 48 sts, prepare to work in the rnd.
Round 1-8: *k2, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.
Round 9: *k2tog, yo, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.
Round 10: *k2, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.
Round 11: *yo, ssk, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.
Round 12: *k2, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rep from Rnd 9-12.
Rep Rnd 12: until item measures approx 7 inches from cast on edge.
Using tapestry needle and a piece of scrap yarn, transfer all the stitches to the piece of scrap yarn.
Place the stitches from the scrap yarn onto the 24-peg loom, two stitches per peg.
Next 3 rnds: *k1, p1; rep from * to end of rnd.
Bind off with gather removal method. Weave ends in. Block lightly. Secure faux pom pom to the top of the hat.

Can this be done on any size loom?

You will need a loom that is similar in gauge as to the knitting loom I used. You will also need it to have the same amount of pegs, if you are going to follow the pattern as written. The loom I used has a gauge of 5/8″ and it is made by KB Looms. You can find it at http://www.kblooms.com and it is called the Premium Chunky Round Loom Set.
